The Environmental Health Division provides services designed to ensure a safe and healthy environment to all county residents. This aspect of public health that focuses on the relationship between the environment and human health, while minimizing public exposure to environmental hazards.
Professional staff Sanitarians specialize in specific programs including: wells, septic systems, food and vending inspections, site reviews, and permit issuances. Responsibilities include enforcement of Michigan’s Smoke Free Law and investigation of complaints regarding restaurants and bars.

Water Quality Tipline:
The St. Clair County Health Department's 24-hour anonymous tipline is available to provide current Water Quality Advisories, or to report failing septic systems, illegal dumping, or water quality concerns. Names and identifying information remain confidential.
Emergency Reporting:
For emergency environmental reporting, contact the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, (EGLE) Pollution Emergency Alerting System (PEAS) Hotline. This services is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
