Mercury
Mercury is a dangerous and potent neurotoxin that affects the central nervous system, kidneys, and liver. This substance is found in many household items, including old thermostats and thermometers. To reduce exposure, avoid buying items containing mercury and use substitutes whenever possible.

The  St. Clair County Landfill offers a FREE program to exchange old mercury thermometers for new digital ones. Contact the Landfill at (810) 985-2443 for disposal of your old mercury thermometer and for a digital replacement.

Mold

Radon
The Health Department provides radon test kits for home use. The kit includes the postage to an out-of-state laboratory and analysis. Test results are emaiiled to the user. Information about radon reduction techniques is also available.

Asbestos
The Health Department does not conduct testing for asbestos. Names of qualified asbestos inspectors and removal contractors are available thought the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) website. Click here to view the website.
