You have the right to make a Written Statement

Victim’s of crime have the right to file a Victim Impact Statement . It is reviewed by the judge and the probation agent prior to sentencing. This is one way that the1aw allows you to tell the judge what effect the crime has had on you. The law does not require you to complete this form. If you do complete the form, please submit it to the Victim’s Rights Office as soon as possible.

You also have the right to make an Oral Statement

On the day of sentencing, you have the right to make an oral statement about how this crime has affected, influenced, or changed your life and/or lifestyle. This statement can include, but is not limited to, the nature and extent of any physical, psychological or emotional harm or trauma suffered, the extent of any economic loss or property damage suffered, the need for and extent of restitution, and your recommendation for an appropriate sentence. This statement is made in the courtroom with the defendant present. Although you may say anything that you would like, please keep in mind that this statement is made to the Judge and not the defendant. This will help to avoid any confrontation in the courtroom.
