(Michigan Veterans Homeowners Assistance Program)
Program Scope
The Michigan Attorney General targeted funds from the National Mortgage
Settlement to assist Military Service Members and Veterans with issues related
to the foreclosure crisis.
The Michigan Veterans Trust Fund state office staff members will administer
funding assistance to prevent foreclosure. Grants are subject to approval based
on program criteria.
The MiVHAP will provide financial grant assistance to Active military service
members; Reserve, Air and Army National Guard, and honorably discharged Veterans
living or having lived in a home in Michigan.
The MiVHAP may assist with residual effects related to the foreclosure crisis,
since 2006.
Eligible surviving spouses of military service members, whose deaths have been
deemed to be combat related since 2006, may also be provided financial
assistance.

(Emergency Financial Relief Fund)
Emergency Relief Fund For Active Military
Financial
emergency relief offers relief for veterans, their spouses, and minor children.
Eligibility:
- 180 active duty days served during wartime era.
- WW I - April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918
(If service in Russia, then to April 1, 1920)
- WW II - December 7, 1941, to December 31, 1946
- Korea - June 27, 1950, to January 31, 1955
- Vietnam - February 28, 1961, to May 7, 1975
- Persian Gulf - August 2, 1990, to present
- Honorable Discharge
- County residency
Applications are accepted by, prepared, and submitted to a committee made of appointed
representatives from veterans service organizations by an authorized agent. Each
application must be approved on a case-by-case basis.
- Income, expenses, employment, dependency, and other pertinent information regarding
household will be necessary upon application.
- Requests for past due utility bills the claimant is required to provide original
notices upon application.
- Requests for assistance with Rent/Mortgage payment(s), the claimant is required
to provide the necessary form completed by the landlord/mortgage company upon application.
Soldiers & Sailors Relief Fund
The Soldiers & Sailors Relief Fund has been designed to provide financial relief
for indigent veterans and their families.
Veterans with honorable discharge from armed forces and spouses, minor children,
parents of veterans with honorable discharge from armed forces during wartime era.
The Director as an authorized agent of the St. Clair County Department of Veterans
Affairs Committee provides application and approval of disbursement.
Soldiers Relief Policy
Financial Eligibility Criteria is the same as the VA's criteria using the HUD

By using the VA's calculator you can see if you meet the financial criteria. If
you are accepted then you meet the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Financial
Criteria; then begin the application process.
