About Us
The Information
Technology Department (IT) is an internal services department of the county, which
manages and maintains all county data and telecommunication systems and their supporting
infrastructure.
A primary goal of the Information Technology Department is to facilitate technologies
of specific departments and other entities throughout and outside the county enterprise
through use of the county network. This network provides immediate access to information
that may be stored anywhere within the county infrastructure. It allows the shared
use of storage, printers, modems, and other devices, and grants access into other
organizations and global informational resources. It is available to all users at
all times. And appropriately, users have come to rely upon its existence.
As the differing
technology disciplines - data, voice and video - continue to converge into a single
IP-based infrastructure, the county, through IT, has proactively begun development
of an integrated phone system that ties not only the campus sites together, but
also connects remote locations.
The IT department utilizes several service providers to facilitate connectivity
between sites and the county network, non-county networks (such as the state of
Michigan network) and the Internet, including Ameritech, AT&T
and the ISD.
