GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Pursue the interests of justice by representing the people in criminal, quasi-criminal and civil matters to protect the safety and welfare of the community by holding violators justly accountable for their acts. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Reports directly to the Chief Assistant Prosecutor. |
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Provides advice and guidance to other APA's and supervision to law student interns. |
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Position involves working regularly with victims, witnesses and police officers to present and resolve serious/complex cases.
Will be assigned to other specialized duties in addition to felony/family court caseload.
This position reports directly to the Chief Assistant Prosecutor.

AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
License to practice law in the state of Michigan, active participation in PAAM/NCDA training opportunities; 4 – 6 (or more) years as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney or equivalency in courtroom proficiency; demonstrated competency and capacity for legal specialization and handling serious/complex cases. |
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Prepare and present all manner of criminal and civil cases to ensure that defendants are justly held accountable for their actions.
Review investigation reports and authorize/deny legal proceedings.
Negotiate case dispositions in order to reach a just resolution prior to trial, complying with office policy.
Apply expertise to case handling/litigation while giving advice and guidance to other APA's and in investigative personnel.
Conduct legal research on complex legal issues and prepare and file pleadings, briefs, motions and memoranda.
Handle special legal assignments, including the most complex/serious special prosecutions in felony and family court; handle forfeiture and other civil matters; conduct attorney/police training and community public speaking.
Be responsible for on-call 24 hour duty. |
