Tasked with providing law enforcement and other services to over 770 square miles of land, the sheriff also provides the constitutionally mandated services of the jail and the patrolling of the 110 miles of shoreline. The Intervention center also houses the Counties Central dispatch and Juvenile facility.

Elected in 2008, Sheriff Tim Donnellon, a 21 year veteran of the department, has taken up were his predecessors have left off by providing the county with committed and dedicated service.
