Juvenile Intervention Center
The St. Clair County Juvenile
Intervention Center houses both a short term detention program and a longer term
residential treatment program. Both programs are within the jurisdiction of the
St. Clair County Circuit Court, Family Division.
The Juvenile Detention Center is a secure program that can house up to 30
children ages 9-16 that have had legal difficulties within their home, in the
community or at a school setting. The stay in detention typically varies from
several days to several weeks dependent upon the reason the child is being held
and pending court disposition.
The Residential Treatment Program is a secure program with an overall capacity
of 30 children (20 boys and 10 girls), ages 12-17, with most being older
adolescents who are adjudicated Court wards. Children accepted into the program
will have longer term, more serious school, home and community problems, many
with secondary substance use issues. The program is not a psychiatric facility
and therein does not accept children with severe emotional difficulties. All
treatment residents receive individual, family and group services. Additionally
residents receive an initial psychiatric assessment with medication review and
management being available as personal circumstances warrant.
Full educational services are provided by the St. Clair County Intervention
Academy, a charter school overseen by the Romine Group, Inc. (TRG), an
educational provider to public schools academies (charter) in the State of
Michigan.
Health services are provided by an on-site certified nurse practitioner. These
services are augmented by a physician who is on-site as medically needed or
minimally once a week.
