GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of responsible administrative tasks in assistance to the County Administrator and/or Board of Commissioners, such as but not limited to project research, development, planning, recommendation and oversight. An employee in this classification is responsible for the preparation and distribution of agenda and agenda items on behalf of the Board of Commissioners and the standing committees of the Board. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the County Administrator. |
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of assigned clerical staff, interns and technical support staff is exercised. |
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Proven knowledge of the principles and practices of local government including finance.
Proven knowledge of sources of information related to problems of local government.
Ability to write clear and concise reports as well as other forms of written communication.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
Ability to develop comprehensive plans from general instructions.
Ability to accomplish assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision.
Ability to meet the public and to discuss problems, complaints and issues of concern in a tactful, courteous and effective manner.
Ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with department heads as well as other County employees. |
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a college or university with a baccalaureate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or related course of study required. Some experience of a responsible nature in municipal management at any level of government. |
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Gathers information, prepares reports and makes recommendations to the County Administrator and/or Board of Commissioners.
Participates in special projects assigned by the County Administrator and/or Boards of Commissioners.
Prepares and distributes agenda and agenda items to the Board of Commissioners and standing committees of the Board of Commissioners.
Conducts a variety of research projects as directed by the County Administrator and/or Board of Commissioners.
Reviews memos, reports and similar materials in order to provide summary and recommendation of a variety of subjects for the County Administrator and/or Boards of Commissioners.
Provides supervision and coordination of clerical support staff to the County Administrator and/or other departments of the County.
Confers with and advises department heads on special projects and operational policy established by the County Administrator and/or Board of Commissioners.
Performs organizational and procedural analyses of County Departments as directed by the County Administrator and/or Boards of Commissioners.
Attends conferences, meetings and sessions on behalf of the County Administrator and/or Board of Commissioners.
Conducts investigation, study and evaluation of administrative operations and management methods in order to make recommendations.
Performs other administrative and responsible tasks as required and assigned by the County Administrator and Board of Commissioners. |
