Title: Drain Fieldman

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Fieldman is responsible for maintaining vegetation, clearing drain easements and for the maintenance and repair of waterways and drains on a limited basis.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Drain Commissioner.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to perform and demonstrate proper equipment operation.

Ability to recognize good workmanship in drain construction and maintenance work.

Ability to assist others in the operation of power brush cutting equipment, chainsaws, etc.

Ability to recognize crop damage caused by drain office operations and other sources.

Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public.

Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.

AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.

Three years of progressively responsible experience in performing drain maintenance & repair work.

Skilled in equipment operation including, but not limited to, a skid-steer loader & miscellaneous attachments.

 

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)

Operate and maintain all equipment.

Make minor drain repairs.

Inspect utility crossings to insure compliance with Drain Office permits.

Seed and fertilize drain slopes.

Assist engineer or surveyor in staking drains or drain construction inspection.

Investigate complaints on condition of County drains.

Assist Road Commission personnel in cleaning enclosed County drains with the sewer jet cleaner.

Prepare and maintain written records and reports.

Perform a variety of maintenance functions including welding.

Perform related work as required.

Daily greasing of equipment being used.
