Title: Master Gardener Coordinator

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

In concert with the Lead Extension Educator and/or State MGVP Coordinator, responsible for managing, planning, coordinating and evaluating a comprehensive education program and the related volunteer management system.   

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Lead Extension Educator with input from State Master Gardener Coordinator (AND LOCAL MGA, WHERE APPROPRIATE).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to effectively communicate in verbal, written and electronic format.

Willingness to work with and organize small committees to accomplish tasks.

Ability to delegate and accept direction.

Possess basic budgeting skills.

Possess strong organization and people skills.

AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree (combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree).

Knowledge and at least two years of experience in both program management and subject matter related to the program area of emphasis.

Proficient computer operation skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or other email system, etc.). 

Experience in supervising volunteers is preferred. 

Must possess own transportation and valid Michigan driver’s license.

MUST BE OR BECOME A CERTIFIED MASTER GARDENER.

 

 

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)

Manages the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the Master Gardener Volunteer Program within the defined geographical area of responsibility.

Recruits, selects, and trains program volunteers.

Selects program participants in accordance to the MSUE Volunteer Selection Process

Organizes and implements basic training

Ensures that MGVP activities align with the mission and goals of MSUE

Ensures training and volunteer outreach efforts align with MSUE focus areas

Provides volunteer recognition

Serves as the MSUE Advisor to the local MGVs and association and ensures adherence to MSU Extension MGVP policy for fiscal compliance.

COMMUNICATES AND COORDINATES MASTER GARDENER ACTIVITIES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.

Acts as a liaison between the local program and State MGVP.

Develops programs in conjunction with the interest and input of program participants and community partners.

Coordinates and assists with data gathering and evaluation analysis.

Prepares and maintains program/project records and reports.

Actively participates in training to attain appropriate knowledge and skill level in order to maintain and expand proficiency in subject-matter content and process skills.

Understands and implements diversity and affirmative action principles and compliance standards.

Other duties as may be assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
