GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Elections Clerk is responsible for a variety of activities in the elections divisions. Duties include such tasks as record keeping, clerical support, providing public notice, certification of voter roles, election certification and clerical tasks in support of other departmental divisions.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, business English, spelling commercial subjects.
Reasonable knowledge of the organization, procedures and operations of a particular county department or division.
Skill, speed and accuracy in performing various clerical and typing tasks.
Skill in the operation of a typewriter.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, correspondence, reports and tabulations. Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously.
Ability to work effectively with the public ant other employees. |
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of a standard high school course with business school training highly desirable;
Considerable progressively responsible experience in clerical work including some experience in the County Clerk's office;
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge's, skills and abilities. |
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Prepare and maintain all records, files and notices necessary to comply with Michigan Campaign Law.
Prepare and distribute notices of Special, Primary and General Elections to appropriate political subdivision.
Maintain and update the voter registration list. Conduct annual County Retirement Board Election, certification of candidate petitions and election results.
Distribute voter registration information to the appropriate political subdivisions.
Review and update annually the County directory.
Provide clerical assistance as required to other departmental divisions.
May order supplies.
Respond to questions about departmental practices, procedures and services.
Compile information and prepare correspondence, records and reports requiring familiarity with departmental activities.
Answer telephone and other inquiries requiring a knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.
Compile statistical data to be used in records or reports.
Operate typewriter, computer terminal, calculator or other office machines and equipment. Requisition supplies.
Perform a variety of clerical tasks involving familiarity with departmental terminology and operations.
Perform telephone contact work.
Perform related work as required. |
