GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Chief Deputy Clerk position involves contact with the general public on a continuous basis. Office procedures are governed by statute and must be executed accordingly. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of the County Clerk. |
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
The Deputy Clerk assists the County Clerk in the overall supervision of the office. |
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Reasonable knowledge of statutes and regulations.
Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
Ability to manage the work of other employees.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
Ability to work effectively with officials, employees and the general public.
Trustworthiness and dependability.

AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Business Administration, Public Administration or equivalent four-year college; or
Associates Degree with five to ten years related experience and/or training; or As appointed by the elected County Clerk/Register of Deeds.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Administers department activities in accordance with state and county regulations.
Supervises, trains and instructs new employees.
Assists Circuit Judges in qualifying jury panel and performs the clerical requirements created by and pertaining to a jury.
Issues certified copies of documents on file upon request.
Records and transcribes minutes of the County Board of Commissioners' meeting in the clerk's absence.
Orders supplies and issues requisitions.
Performs bookkeeping functions of the office.
In charge of restitution dispersements.
Oversee the work of other clerical personnel.
Assist in hiring new employees, evaluating employees and disciplining employees.
Prepares payroll biweekly and maintains vacation and sick time
Conducts monthly staff meetings
Acts as County Clerk in his/her absence.
