GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
To enter information for various records into computer; to perform responsible secretarial and clerical work involving the clerk's records and court operations; to file all clerk records; to assist and provide the general public with services requested; to compose and type correspondence, records and reports, to be backup for court clerks and to perform related work as required. |

Work is performed under the general supervision of a designated official. |

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable speed and accuracy in inputting data into computer.
Considerable knowledge of legal terminology and familiarity with the operations of court or a law office.
Reasonable knowledge of a modern office and office procedures.
Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to prepare a variety of legal and other written records and reports.
Tact and diplomacy in dealing with officials, attorneys and the general public.
Considerable knowledge of computer programs including the ability to query and update information.

AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited high school, including or supplemented by courses in law, typing, computers, criminal justice and commercial subjects. One or more years experience with the court system or a law office. Preferred - Associate Degree

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Perform responsible secretarial work in connection with court and a clerk's office.
Responsible for preparing copies of any vital record requested from the attorneys or the general public.
Perform a variety of clerical tasks involving familiarity with legal terminology and legal operations.
Signs and affixes court seal as required
Open, distribute and process mail including processing motions, wage garnishments,orders, new court cases, jury demands and executions against property.
Answer telephone and other inquires requiring considerable knowledge of the department rules and regulations.
Prepare any correspondence necessary.
Responsible for indexing and filing DD-214's and burial permits.
Assist genealogists.
Cross trained with court clerks to serve as backup. |
