GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Prepares invoice/statement of accounts and maintains subsidiary accounts receivable ledger. The Accounts Receivable Clerk works under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager. |

|
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of and ability to implement current IRS, Federal, State and local laws and accounts receivable practices and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of accounting.
Must have good public relations abilities for dealing with customers, inmates and department heads.
Must have specialized training in computerized accounts receivable systems.
Must have working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software. |
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have an Associates Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting and a minimum of two (2) years increasingly responsible work experience as an Accounts Receivable Clerk.
- OR -
A minimum of five (5) years increasingly responsible work experience as an Accounts Receivable Clerk. |
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Prepare and send customer statements of account. Assist in collecting information for grant reporting.
Maintain subsidiary receivable ledger and supporting documentation for all monies owed the County.
Make collection efforts on old accounts receivable.
Resolve account disputes with customers and propose write-offs of bad debts and forbearance plans.
Enter remittance information into County's computerized accounts receivable system.
Reconcile removal of accounts receivable with County Treasurer daily.
Other duties as assigned.
The Accounts Receivable Clerk generally works in the accounting offices of the St. Clair County Administration Building with occasional travel to remote County department locations.
An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
This position will also learn the duties of Accounts Payable Clerk and will perform them in the absence of that employee. |
