GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Therapists are responsible for seeing residents to address mental health and substance abuse issues. Therapist are to complete documentation of the clinical assessment, social history, individual plan of service, progress notes, quarterly reviews and discharge summaries for each assigned resident. Therapists are expected to provide high quality services in accordance with recognized standards in the profession. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Therapists are responsible directly to the Program Coordinator, the Assistant Superintendent and the Superintendent to perform all duties. |
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Therapists are responsible for providing leadership and supervision to all employees. Additionally, therapists need to work cooperatively with all staff, including child care workers, teachers, supervisors and administration, in order to foster a cooperative and supportive work environment for staff and residents. |
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Therapists are expected to possess a theoretical and practical knowledge of the principles, methods, procedures and techniques of social work, clinical psychology, mental health, substance abuse and family therapy.
Additionally, therapists must possess a knowledge of child and adolescent development; as well as individual, group, family and crisis intervention techniques.
Therapists must possess the personal skills necessary to gain respect, confidence and cooperation of youth in order to permit effective counseling, while maintaining a cooperative and professional relationship with all levels of staff involved in the care of the youth and the operation of the facility. |
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree or Doctorate in Human Services field i.e.: MSW, MA, PhD.
Therapists must possess appropriate state certification or licensure depending on specific professional discipline.
Therapists must have a minimum of two years post-graduate experience in working with adolescents and their families in a professional mental health and/or substance abuse setting. |
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Conducts individual, group and family therapy sessions.
Participates in Treatment Program's Screening and Intake Committee.
Conducts and develops assessments, social histories, and individual plans of service, progress notes, quarterly assessments and discharge summaries for each resident.
Responds to crises with residents.
Completes documentation in a timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures, i.e. charting, and professional ethics.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, clinical supervision and case consultation.
Conducts Life Skills Group Sessions as needed.
Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems
Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures.
Attends a minimum of fifty (50) hours in the first year of employment and twenty-four (24) hours in each subsequent year of training in accordance with the specifications of Child Licensing.
Provides a minimum of a thirty (30) day notice in writing of intent to leave the employment of the County. |
