GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Court Reporter is responsible for recording and transcribing verbatim court testimony, notes, minutes, court proceedings and hearings; for transcribing court proceedings upon appeal; and for performing related work as required. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Circuit Court Judges. |

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of court and formal hearing proceedings and ability to record verbatim testimony with considerable speed and accuracy.
Considerable knowledge of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Speed, skill and accuracy in the operation of a typewriter.
Reasonable knowledge of modern office methods, practices and procedures.
Ability to exercise good judgment in recording testimony and statements.
Ability to work effectively with other officials and employees. |
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited high school, supplemented by technical training in shorthand, typing and related subjects.
Some experience in performing legal stenographic or court reporting work. |
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Record and transcribe proceedings and hearings in a Circuit Court.
Record and transcribe notes, minutes, testimony and other matters as required.
Index and store notes for future reference.
Order supplies and materials.
File transcripts of pleas and sentences per court rules.
Perform related work as required. |
