Title: Transportation Officer
Department: Circuit Court - Juvenile Detention Center

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Transportation Officer drives, inspects and maintains the Juvenile Center’s vehicles (or privately owned vehicle if a County vehicle is not available) and transports children, paperwork and supplies for the Juvenile Center and all divisions of the Family Court.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Transportation Officer is responsible to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and the Shift Supervisors.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The Transportation Officer must have a minimum of 30 semester hours of college credit or equivalent quarter hours.  An Associates degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or Criminal Justice is preferred.  An understanding of and a desire to work with adolescent youth and the ability to supervise adolescent youth as well as the ability to meet and deal effectively with the public.
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Must possess a state of Michigan Chauffeurs license; must carry personal liability insurance coverage of at least $100,000/$300,000 to supplement the County’s insurance coverage.  Must have a safe driving record and a demonstrated ability to drive safely.  Must have a general knowledge of proper vehicle maintenance. 
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)

Transports youth to and from the Juvenile Center, the Family Court, doctor’s offices, hospitals, foster homes, other residential facilities, etc.

Transports paperwork and other items for the Juvenile Center and all divisions of the Family Court.  Transports supplies for the Juvenile Center and all divisions of the Family Court. 

Insures that the Juvenile Center’s vehicles are properly maintained.

Prepares and submits required vehicle operational reports.

In emergency situations, the Transportation Officer is subject to transfer to any area or position within the Juvenile Center and/or Family Court to perform any duties which are required.
