GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Court Administrator is responsible for the effective and efficient management of all non-judicial matters of the court and for supervision of all court Personnel including, but not limited to: calendaring, case flow management, space and facilities planning and budget preparation and compliance monitoring. The Court Administrator is also responsible for the system of providing legal defense services to indigents charged with felonies. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the direction of the Circuit Judges, primarily the Chief Circuit Judge. |
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision may be exercised over clerical staff and other Court employees, as may be directed by the Judges. |
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Management ability, demonstrated by substantial experience in progressively more responsible management positions in government or the private sector.
Experience in modern business and management techniques, including use of automatic data processing. A demonstrated capability to plan and conduct studies designed to improve court management and the ability to prepare recommendations and to implement them when approved. A high degree of judgment, understanding and tact.
The ability to maintain proper relationships with other courts, state and federal government officials, members of the bar and the public.
The ability to conduct conferences and meetings and to communicate clearly in writing and speech to the County Commissioners, the judges of the courts and representatives of governmental agencies, industry and the public.
Formal training in court management and managerial experience in addition to familiarity with court procedures. Creative leadership, planning ability and organizational skills, initiative, decisiveness and dedication to make significant contributions to productive change in operating methods. |
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelors Degree in the field of Judicial Administration, Public Administration or Business Administration.
Three years of experience in a responsible management position, with training in court administration preferred. A law degree or a graduate degree in one of the above fields is preferred.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Confers with administrative staff for the purpose of keeping office procedures up to date.
Reviews budget accounts and requisitions supplies and equipment.
Participates in staff meetings, judges meetings, study groups and in other official meetings as required.
Prepares periodic and special inventories and reports of Court cases.
