Title: Custodian I - Animal Control
Department: Animal Control

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

To perform general custodian and various building and grounds maintenance tasks in the cleaning and care of the Animal Shelter. Supervise the Trustees that have been assigned to the shelter. Work weekends and holidays and other times when it is felt necessary. Euthanize animals as necessary.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of the Animal Control Department.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Shelter employees to include the Trustees assigned to the shelter.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to use discretion and good judgment.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Special interest in animals and understanding of their proper treatment.
Willingness to develop and understanding of animal care through formal training or otherwise as provided.
Good knowledge of animal diseases and ability to recognize symptoms of illness.
Skill in checking and handling animals without personal injury.
Good moral character and good physical condition.
Knowledge of the methods, material and equipment used in custodial work.
Knowledge of accepted cleaning methods and material and of the care of cleaning equipment.
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of a standard high school course. Certificate of training in injectable euthanasia of animals. (8 hour of training by a certified Veterinarian).
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Pick up Trustees and transport them to the Animal Shelter.
Euthanize animals as needed.
Clean offices, bathrooms, etc.
Do normal cleaning tasks.
Maintain exterior of building and grounds.
Perform related work as required.
