Title: Clerk Typist II - Animal Control

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

To perform moderately difficult and complex typing, secretarial, clerical or other record keeping work; and to perform public contact and related clerical work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of the Animal Control Department.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
In absence of the Director will be in charge of the day-to-day operation of the department. Supervise any part or full time clerical staff.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ability to use discretion, good judgment, understands and carries out oral and written instructions. Must have the ability to deal with the public and employees tactfully and courteously.
Must have a considerable knowledge of the modern office practices and procedures, business English, spelling and commercial subjects.
Must have knowledge in the operation of computers and programs that are being used, (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access etc.).
Must have the ability to prepare and maintain accurate clerical records, correspondence, reports and tabulations.
Perform related work as required.
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of an Associates Degree in business administration or must have worked in a related field for a minimum of 2 years.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Compile information and prepare correspondence, records and reports requiring familiarity with departmental activities.
Compose and type correspondence and reports.
Answer telephone and other inquiries regarding knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.
Act a dispatcher.
Receive all complaints and dispatch them to the Animal Control Officers.
Prepare receipts, vouchers or other records.
Operate typewriter, copy machine, calculator, computer or other offices machines and equipment. Requisition supplies.
May open and sort mail.
Issue and record permits and licenses.
Perform related work as required.
