Title: SUPERVISOR
Department: Building Operations/Maintenance
Wage Range: $37,450   View compensation structure
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, directs and supervises maintenance and custodial services for County buildings and facilities. Maintain central supply of cleaning and maintenance material. Does related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Operations and Maintenance Department Superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision is exercised over a group of maintenance men, custodians or others assigned to assist.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of generally accepted cleaning methods and materials and of general building maintenance techniques.
Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of low pressure boilers, heating and air conditioning systems.
Considerable knowledge of power driven equipment and supplies used in building cleaning and maintenance activities.
Reasonable knowledge of one or more of the skilled trades.
Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a group of employees.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records of work performed and supplied on hand.
Ability to understand and interpret oral and written instructions.
Initiative and resourcefulness in solving problems.
Ability to work effectively with others.
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited high school, supplemented by technical training in one or more of the skilled trades.
Several years of progressively responsible experience in building maintenance, repair, custodial or related work.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Organize and supervise the work of a group of custodial employees engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of a group of county buildings.
Prepare work schedules and inspect work in progress and upon completion.
Plan and supervise grounds maintenance activities.
Prepare and maintain work, supply and time records and reports.
Order, maintain and issue custodian supplies.
Supervise building maintenance and repair work involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, locksmithing or other services.
Maintain heating unit and air conditioning systems.
Supervise the operation of power tools and equipment, including buffing machine, vacuum cleaners, various hand tools and power driven equipment.
Assist in training new personnel.
Maintain employee and other records.
Prepare inventory of cleaning and other supplies.
Contact and oversee contractors regarding major repair and maintenance work.
Make periodic inspection of boilers, pumps, heaters and related equipment and lays out and supervises repairs to heating and cooling systems.
Plan a preventive maintenance program.
Perform related work as required.
