Title: Maintenance Worker
Department: Building Operations/Maintenance
Wage Range: Not Available
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
To perform general building and grounds maintenance duties; to oversee and perform some general custodial and cleaning tasks in the care of the county buildings and facilities. To perform related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervised by the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May on occasion supervise Custodian I's and II's.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in custodial and buildings and grounds maintenance.
Reasonable knowledge of accepted cleaning methods and materials, and the care of cleaning equipment.
Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
Ability to keep accurate records.
Ability to make written reports.
Ability to lay out work for others and direct them in this work.
Ability to analyze situations and take effective action.
Good physical condition.
Ability to take and pass any tests for certifications.
Reasonable computer knowledge.
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
Five years of experience in the following:
· Building and grounds maintenance;
· Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and small engine repair;
· Installation, operation and repair of the various types of equipment involved in the operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Inspect buildings to determine work to be performed.
Check work activities and open and close buildings.
Remove snow from the sidewalks.
Mow grass.
Unplug drains.
Change broken electrical switches.
Grease all motors.
Keep records of maintenance requests.
Order and record supplies.
Change oil and upkeep of small engines.
Painting.
Repair sprinkler lines.
Arrange building furniture as required.
Change lights.
Perform related work as required.
