Title: Building and Grounds Worker
Department: Building Operations/Maintenance

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
To oversee and perform general custodial and various building and grounds maintenance tasks in the cleaning and care of public buildings and facilities; additionally provides backup as necessary to the Mail Clerk position and performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of a Building and Maintenance Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in custodial and minor building and grounds maintenance work.
Reasonable knowledge of accepted cleaning methods and materials and the care of cleaning equipment.
Reasonable knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and/or small engine repair.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Good physical condition.
Ability to take and pass any and all test for any certifications needed to perform job duties.
Ability to prioritize and manage daily tasks, effectively utilizing time and meeting deadlines.
Reasonable skill in the operation of a computer system and software programs.
Ability to maintain accurate records, ledgers, logs and reports.
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma (GED acceptable) required. Considerable experience in performing a variety of building and grounds cleaning and maintenance activities.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
An employee in this class performs physical work requiring lifting of object weighing more than fifty (50) pounds.
Dust, sweep, mop and wax furniture and floors.
Clean and maintain lavatories.
Arrange and move office equipment and furniture.
Wash windows, walls and woodwork.
Gather and dispose of refuse.
Operate maintenance and custodial equipment and tools.
Perform maintenance tasks, such as but not limited to simple electrical, plumbing and carpentry jobs.
Perform preventative maintenance tasks.
Maintain and inspect supplies.
Operate vacuum cleaners, polishers and other equipment and tools.
Sweep sidewalks and keep free of ice and snow.
Mow and water lawn and perform some ground maintenance work.
Share and/or substitute Mail Room Clerk position in the event of vacancy.
Maintains records and reports as required.
Inspects and maintains a monthly log of fire extinguishers and AEDs. 
Perform related custodial and maintenance work as required.
