GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
To perform moderately complex clerical, typing and stenographic work requiring familiarity with departmental activities; to record and transcribe dictation and type correspondence and reports; and to perform related work as required. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the supervision of an employee of higher grade. |

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Reasonable knowledge of business English, spelling and commercial arithmetic.
Reasonable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Speed, skill and accuracy in recording and transcribing dictation.
Ability to assemble data and to prepare accurate written records.
Ability to make accurate arithmetic calculations and tabulations.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work effectively with the public and other employees.

AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited high school including or supplemented by courses in typing, shorthand, and commercial subjects.
Some experience in performing clerical work.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
Record dictation and transcribe correspondence, memoranda, hearings, reports, minutes, records and other material from shorthand.
Type letters, forms, reports, records, tabulations and similar material from rough draft or instructions.
Check the accuracy and completeness of records, forms, documents and attachments according to detailed procedures or by comparison with original sources.
Audit tax receipts and answer inquiries.
Compile statistical data and post to various records.
Sort, check and file reports, cards, charts, letters, stencils and similar material.
Order and maintain supplies.
Answer telephone, give information and take messages.
May act as a receptionist.
Process bills for payment and mail checks.
Operate office duplicating and other equipment.
Compose correspondence and reports.
Perform related work as required. |
