GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
To be able to perform various legal office duties. Typing correspondence, orders and motions. To work with Legal and Support staff to perform assigned tasks involving secretarial and clerical work involving law office or court. To provide office support with purchasing and record keeping. To perform with a high level of accuracy with all required assigned duties. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Office Manager. |

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Reasonable knowledge of legal terminology and familiarity with the operations of a court or law office.
Reasonable knowledge of modern office and bookkeeping practices and procedures.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to prepare a variety of legal and other written records and reports.
Understanding of computer programs, Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Tact and diplomacy in dealing with other employees, officials and the general public. |
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited high school. Additional courses including or supplemented in, computer training and legal secretary. Reasonable experience in performing responsible stenographic work involving a court or law office. Strong computer skills using, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Word, WordPerfect, and Excel. |
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
With considerable speed and accuracy, and with fluency in legal terminology record and transcribe dictation, hearings or court proceedings and to perform responsible secretarial work in connection with a court or law office.
Compose and type correspondence, records and reports as directed.
Set up office records and file folders.
Type complaints, warrants, declarations, writs, summons, subpoenas, transcripts, affidavits and other legal papers and correspondence.
Schedule hearings, make appointments and perform public contact work.
Review and type petitions for commitments and orders for the appointment of guardians.
Prepare certified records, perform bookkeeping and related office work.
Perform interviews and discuss custody arrangements.
Operate office duplicating equipment.
Perform telephone and other public contact work.
Prepare and maintain files and office supplies.
Perform related work as required. |
