Title: SURVEILLANCE OFFICER/INTERVENTION AIDE
Department: Circuit Court - Juvenile Detention Center
Wage Range: Not Available
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Surveillance Officer/Intervention Aide is responsible for the supervision and control of youth who have been committed to the Day Treatment/Night Watch Program.
The Surveillance Officer works with the Day Treatment staff as part of a team to help youth work through the program and for assisting in the Family Intervention Worker duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Program Director.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASSIFICATION, UPON APPOINTMENT, MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • An Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related Behavioral Science field is required.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (An employee in this classification may be called upon to perform the following tasks which are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.)
  • Daily contact with youth/parent(s) at the home in the day and evening hours.
  • Activating and checking electronic monitoring equipment and monitoring compliance and violations when this type of surveillance is used.
  • Apprehending violators and taking them to detention when necessary.
  • Supervising youth during field trips, recreational or any planned activity.
  • Supervising youth on community service projects.
  • Complete weekly statistical reports and evaluations on all youth in program.
  • Supervise youth during school hours and all related activities.
  • Assist in facilitating groups on drug/alcohol education and assessment, self management, daily study group, various other groups concerning self-esteem, health education, peer counseling, anger reduction, interpersonal skills, assertiveness training, job readiness, job seeking skills and career exploration.
  • Contact with youths place of employment if youth is employed.
  • Assist in facilitating family support group and family counseling.
  • Perform drug testing on youth.
  • Cleaning, maintaining and reporting mechanical problems with the program vehicles.
  • Completes daily sign-out log so that whereabouts are known at all times.
  • Administer reinforcers and sanctions for compliance and non-compliance with program expectations.
  • Completes daily contact/work sheets for verification by Program Director that home visits, contacts and work assignments are completed.
  • Assists in all duties of Family Intervention Worker.
  • Records daily mileage of vehicle on mileage log.
  • Submits monthly mileage sheet when own vehicle is used in performance of job.
  • Completes monthly compensatory time forms noting time earned and used.
  • Submits requests for use of vacation time and compensatory time to Program Director.
  • AM Surveillance Officer is responsible for making daily school contacts regarding the students in the program. Daily and weekly statistics are maintained by this monitor regarding each youths attendance and behavior in class.
  • AM Surveillance Officer is responsible for picking up youth fro school, monitoring daily activities and returning the youth back home.
  • Report emergencies and/or crisis situations in the program to the Program Director or the Assistant Director.
  • Report any property damage or mechanical problems with the program vehicle to the Assistant Program Director.
  • Assist program staff in mediating any youth/staff conflicts when and if necessary.
  • Assist with physical restraint of youth if necessary.
  • Conduct searches of youth when they arrive at school.
