GENERAL INFORMATION
Environmental Health is an aspect of public health
that focuses on the relationships between the environment and human health.
Environmental Health identifies, prevents, and controls these effects. The
goal of Environmental Health is to minimize the public’s exposure to environmental
hazards.
The Division of Environmental Health
has professional staff Sanitarians that are specialized in specific program areas,
such as wells, septic systems, food and vending inspections, site reviews, and permit
issuances. Sanitarians provide consultation, education, regulatory, and enforcement
services. The laws, rules, and enforcement authority are delegated from the State
of Michigan.
The Division of Environmental Health
often works closely with the Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), Michigan
Department of Consumer and industry Services (MCIS), and the Michigan Department
of Agriculture (MDA) to promote education, training, and enforcement.
