Families in Transition / Partners in Parenting

The Friend of the Court offers an educational program for separating/divorcing parents with children under the age of eighteen. The Program;

  • Provides procedural information regarding the St. Clair County Friend of the Court.
  • Will educate parents regarding support, parenting time and custody.
  • Provides information to help parents better understand the effects of divorce/separation and assists parents to understand the needs of their children.
  • Helps parents learn what they can do to create a nurturing and safe environment so that their children can recover from the divorce/separation and feel good about themselves.
  • Helps parents gain problem-solving skills. It lets parents know that they are not alone.

Why The Program is Important

  • Incorrect and/or misleading information regarding the St. Clair County Friend of the Court can cause confusion and disagreement between parents.
  • Divorce/separation is a process over which children have no control. Children should not become its victims.
  • In the crisis of divorce/separation, parents may put their children on hold while they attend to adult problems first.
  • When parents are under stress it is more difficult to be in touch with their children’s pain and anguish.
  • It takes time, effort and planning on the part of parents to be able to provide for children’s needs.
  • If handled properly, divorce/separation need not be devastating for children.
