What is C.E.R.T.?

Community Emergency Response Team training provided free of charge to community members who are willing to become a member of a CERT team. CERT teams are groups of volunteer citizens whom have received specialized training designed to enhance individual and team ability to recognize, respond to, and recover from a life threatening emergency or disaster.

In the aftermath of a major disaster, emergency responders are often quickly over-tasked which results in response delays that may range from hours to days. CERT members can assist victims by applying their learned response and organizational skills to save and sustain lives until professional help arrives.

This 20-hour training is taught by local emergency personnel and consists of:
     Disaster Preparedness   Disaster Medical Operations
     Terrorism   Fire Safety
     Search and Rescue   Disaster Psychology
     Team Organization   Disaster Exercise

Existing CERT teams meet quarterly for discussion, supplemental training and drills. Members are periodically asked, if available, to assist police, fire, and EMS as requested for non-emergency roles. The purpose of the CERT program is to improve community self-reliance and survival abilities for better preparation for large-scale disasters and emergencies.
