In order to obtain a concealed weapons permit you must obtain and complete the proper application. You can obtain that application from your local Police Department, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office or the St. Clair County Clerk’s Office. Once you receive the application kit you must fill out the enclosed application form, attend the mandatory training and purchase a passport quality photo. Once you have done all that you must visit the St. Clair County Clerk’s Office where you will file the application along with a $105.00 dollar application fee. After you have filed your application with the County Clerk, you must then visit the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office where you will be fingerprinted. You must present your receipt from the Clerk’s Office in order for your prints to be taken. Once all of the above is completed it will take approximately 90 days to process the application. When your fingerprints are returned to the Sheriff’s Office, you will undergo an extensive background investigation. Your application will then be given to the St. Clair County Gun Board, which will either approve or deny your application based upon the information received from the background investigation. The Gun Board will then contact you and request that you go the County Clerk’s Office to pick up your permit. For more information, or to apply for a permit, you can contact the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, by dialing 987-1700 or the St. Clair County Clerk’s Office by dialing 985-2200.
